Breathing Under Pressure: Using Respiratory Science to Improve Performance and Recovery

About

First responders regularly face intense, high-stakes environments where adrenaline surges, heart rates spike, and the body’s natural stress response can become overwhelming. This course explores one of the most effective and overlooked tools for managing that stress—the breath. Through a blend of physiology, neuroscience, and practical awareness, participants will learn how modern breathing habits have shifted from optimal to dysfunctional, why that matters for performance and recovery, and how understanding carbon dioxide tolerance can help regulate the body’s stress response. This is a self-paced online course that can be taken anytime, from anywhere. The total completion time is approximately 85 minutes, allowing participants to learn at their own convenience. This training provides one (1.0) hour of continuing education–level instruction in the physiology and science of breathing for stress regulation. Participants who complete the course and accompanying assessment will receive a Certificate of Completion, which may be submitted to their licensing or certifying organization for consideration of continuing education credit. This course was created in partnership with Reconnect.
